In Between

When you think of the Saturday in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday what comes to mind?

Maybe the month of August, only one of the twelve with no major holiday? Or John Oates of Hall and ...? Ed McMahon, perhaps? Do you wonder if all those Baldwin brothers have a sister?

Given today actually has an official tag, I freely acknowledge my sin i.e., attaching sacrilegious and secular parallels like those above to Holy Saturday. But my lapse as a Roman Catholic during the Kennedy administration means there's been ample time for me to overcome fear of those eternal flames. Besides, I want to hear your blasphemous analogues. That is, unless that hellfire intimidates you.

On Good Friday, I can't borrow a book from the library. Getting a restaurant reservation on Easter Sunday takes some forethought. Today may be holy but it invariably passes with little fanfare, at least for me. Kind of like the triangle in a symphony orchestra or the cream of tartar on the spice rack.

  1. Hey Pat. I love this post. I am not a religious person by any means. Being raised by parents of different religions, allowing my 3 siblings and I the opportunity to choose what, if any, we should to follow, gave me a greater understanding of both these religions as well as an interest in others. But that only raised more questions in my mind and I decided not to be affiliated with any one religion. And despite some disagreements and disappointments with some people in my life, it has worked well enough for me in my life. Your post brought back a number of the questions I have had - Why can't one do this, why can't one eat this, why does one have to go there now, etc, etc, etc ... When some of these things arise (does that count as my blasphemous part of this story - lol) it just makes me think more ... and question more.
    Be well,
    Bob

    1. Bob; You saying you "love this post"" made my morning; thanks for that, especially given yours is the only comment so far. Thanks also for telling me more of your story, the religious version. Your journey sounds a great deal like my own.
