Help From Others

Isn't it wonderful the way different people help you experience the world around you in ways you might have missed if you'd never met them? If this has happened to you, please share an instance of it here with me and others.

While recently walking with a friend who has taken the time to educate me about what he looks for when taking pictures, I suddenly realized how closely I was paying attention to the reflections clouds create in water. It felt momentarily as though I was looking at the world through his eyes. This made me grateful for how he has educated me and - at least for that moment - reminded me how rewarding it can be to take in the world visually. As a person who is more inclined to pay attention to sounds vs. sights, this is no small thing.

Friendship confers so many benefits, doesn't it?

  1. It does indeed. I am more visual than anything else so I can appreciate this experience you had. For me it is about being open to other perspectives. Nice post.

  2. Good afternoon, Pat. I hope this finds you all doing well. As I've gotten older I find that I am paying greater attention to what is going on around me. Whether it be friends or family I try to be more involved in their surroundings as well as my own. One thing that came to mind is watching my brother-in-law when he's either talking about playing guitar or actually playing. He is a graduate of the Chicago Conservatory of Music and his insight is well beyond anything I will ever come close to understanding or putting into practice. When we have the time to talk, or play, I try to look at it through his eyes and mind - knowing that he's right there to answer and explain my many, many questions.
Special recognition also has to go to a more recent friend who's contagious enthusiasm for music, whether in a classroom setting or on a phone call giving guidance regarding what to practice, it has resulted in much greater enjoyment for me.
    Be well,
    See you soon
    Bob
