How long will it be before Monday morning feels like any other morning?
I left the full-time work world in March 2010. It didn't take long for Tuesday - Friday to all begin feeling like Saturday or Sunday felt during the full-time work years. But somehow, Monday - particularly the morning - has stubbornly held on to its identity as the start of the week. It's weird.
Almost without exception, I'm up on Monday morning earlier than I am Tuesday - Friday. I'm also usually done with breakfast sooner. And if a Monday gets off to a slow start and I'm idle for more than a few hours - no exercise, reading, guitar, etc. - I'm much more likely to notice than on those other days.
Decided last night to skip a morning hike I'd scheduled for today; too cold to be outdoors. I'm pretty sure if today was any day between Tuesday-Friday, I'd have paid this no mind. But it's the start of a week, isn't it? Who cares? Apparently, I do.

Pat, this sounds ridiculous but I love Mondays. Granted--I haven't had a M-F job in 31 years. But I still treat it like a work day and try to bang out all the serious stuff and get it out of the way. I'm definitely easier on myself as the week goes on.
ReplyDeleteRegina; Thanks for the comment. My habits on Mondays are similar to yours. The question I have 16 years after leaving the M-F world is why not do that stuff on Tuesday? Or Wednesday?
DeleteI don’t think I can answer your question, Pat, other than Monday is just like that. Each day of the week seems to have a distinctive flavor. And Monday’s is all business.
ReplyDeleteRegina; Thanks for checking back in, something I never expect anyone to do. (My comments thread is easy to keep track of because the most recent comment made always goes to the top of the queue, publish date of post notwithstanding.) Your second comment here has me musing about those "distinctive flavors" of the days of the week. Methinks a near-future blog post is now in the offing. Thanks for the inspiration.
